Ohio Northern athletic director Tom Simmons announced yesterday that Justin Bergman will not return in 2012. Bergman, in the midst of finishing up the 2011 campaign today against John Carroll, will complete his sixth season in Ada without a trip to the OAC tournament to his credit. But this goes deeper than that.

The calendar just flipped to May this morning and we’re already trying to digest the NCAC tournament. Feels a little odd. Throw in the ultimate outcome and it was a fitting end to a strange season in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Beyond the scene in Chillicothe it was Mother Nature stealing the spotlight in what has become the biggest theme of the 2011 season. Enough games have been squeezed in that the OAC tournament picture is starting to pull into focus.

Another week and another milestone in Cleveland. This one may just have been the biggest in program history though.

A Partnership with FOXSports Ohio for BSB

It has been far too long since I lost posted on Buckeye State Baseball. I offer a deep and sincere apology for my lapse in providing coverage of collegiate baseball in Ohio.

While Chad has provided Division III news and notes in my absence, Ohio’s DI, DII, and NAIA scene has taken a severe blow in its coverage which has upset me.

However, I hope with this grand news my nonexistence the last month and such can be forgave, as BSB partners with FSO.

Once again the rain clouds rolled in Saturday and pushed the schedule back to Sunday last week. But that couldn’t dampen the importance of last weekend.

Chugging toward the finish line of the regular season Sunday was highlighted by a couple match ups with Regional tournament implications. The long awaited showdown in Tiffin between Marietta and Heidelberg has been circled on our collective calendars for months.

The other key match up? Somewhat of a surprise.
