Flyers Add Three High School Prospects and Two Transfers

Dayton, Ohio — University of Dayton head coach Tony Vittorio has announced the commitments of five student-athletes to play at Dayton in the 2010-2011 school year.

Ryan Berry, C.J. Gillman, Bobby Glover, Mel Skochdopole and Robby Sunderman will join Dayton in the fall of 2010.

“I am extremely excited about Robby, Mel, Ryan, Bobby, and C. J. joining our University of Dayton Baseball Family. Each one of them provides a specific baseball need for our program,” Vittorio said. “They will represent our program well on the field but also in the classroom and in the community. I am really looking forward to coaching these guys because all five of them come from very successful baseball programs.”

Berry, an infielder, comes from Walsh Jesuit High School. Last season he hit .375 in 88 plate appearances for 29 runs and 25 RBI. Berry was named to the second team All-Cuyahoga River Baseball Conference and was named player of the week by the Akron Beacon-Journal.

Gillman is a transfer from Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kan. Last season for the Garden City Broncbusters, Gillman hit .344 tallying the third-most runs with 51. The Columbine, Colo. native was twice named All-State and All-Colorado Baseball and was a finalist for the Steinmark Award given to the top student-athlete in Colorado. He is an infielder and outfielder with catching experience.

Glover , a Fort Wayne, Ind. prospect, was instrumental in leading the Parkland College Cobras to the NJCAA Div. II National Championship in 2009. Glover was 20-for-22 in stolen bases. He hit .348 with 15 doubles, five home runs and a pair of triples.

Indianapolis, Ind. outfielder Skochdopole is another Hoosier State product. Skochdopole’s experience includes infield and catcher. Last season for the Indianapolis North Central High School Panthers, he hit .391 and posted a .645 slugging percentage for North Central. Skochdopol finished with 15 RBI and four home runs.

Sunderman rounds out Vittorio’s early recruits. He is an infielder for the Archbishop Moeller Crusaders in Cincinnati. In 2009, he was named first team All-Greater Catholic League and first team All-City. Sunderman was also an All-State Honorable Mention. Through 30 games for the Crusaders, Sunderman pieced together 34 runs and 38 hits. In addition he had 16 RBI and posted a .940 fielding percentage.
